In Hebron, Al Khalil, a small workshop filled with the scent of clay and wood, four passionate artisans collaborate to create unique ceramic pieces.
The process begins with potters shaping the clay on the wheel and using moulds for detailed designs, while a carpenter crafts wooden frames for trays. At the centre of this process is Ayat, an artist who brings each piece to life with meticulous brushstrokes. From glazing to firing, she oversees every step, ensuring harmony between design and form. Her brushes, handmade by her father, symbolise the family’s commitment to traditional methods.
Ayat’s journey began at 13 under her father’s guidance, and she now trains young women to develop their artistic talent, blending tradition and passion into every piece.
Ayat's family has been in the ceramic industry since 1965, running Palestine’s first ceramic factory.
Today, Ayat specialises in handmade ceramics, while her husband focuses on traditional Palestinian styles. Together, they honour their heritage and ensure the legacy of Palestinian ceramics continues, infusing each creation with skill, tradition, and love.
